Job Title: Patient Registration Clerk
Location: Salinas, CA - 93901
Job Type: Contract / Temporary
Schedule: Flexible shifts (varied start times during training & orientation)
Job Summary
We’re looking for a detail-oriented Patient Registration Clerk to support front-end hospital operations. This role sits at the intersection of patient experience and administrative accuracy—owning the intake process from first interaction through system entry. You’ll be responsible for collecting, verifying, and processing patient information to ensure seamless care delivery and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact—greet patients, families, and visitors with professionalism and empathy
- Interview patients or representatives to collect accurate demographic and financial information
- Enter and maintain patient data in the hospital system with high accuracy
- Verify patient identity using appropriate documentation
- Collect insurance details, including Medicare/Medi-Cal, and determine primary/secondary payors
- Obtain required authorizations and pre-certifications when applicable
- Prepare and process patient documentation, charts, labels, and ID bands
- Ensure all required forms and signatures are completed and compliant
- Review and validate data for accuracy and completeness
- Coordinate patient transfers, bed assignments, and system updates as needed
- Adhere to all federal and state regulations, including Advance Healthcare Directives
- Maintain a patient-first mindset, especially in high-stress or sensitive situations
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in data entry and/or medical office setting
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) – Mandatory
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
Additional Requirements
- Must be flexible with varied shifts and start times, especially during training
- Ability to adapt quickly and support continuous patient care operations
