Location/Division Specific Information:
As part of the BioServices team, the Rockville, MD site focuses on the receipts, inventory storage, withdrawal and shipment of biological specimens, samples, clinical agents, and materials from multiple commercial and government clients.
How Will You Make an Impact?:
The Material Handler I supports operations by storing and shipping materials at temperatures ranging from ambient (room temperature) to -196 degrees C with potentially hazardous properties.
A Day in the Life:
Receive incoming raw materials.
Facilitate movement of materials, including hazardous materials, across the site
Maintain accurate inventory through receipts, adjustments, and cycle counts.
Efficiently and flawlessly handle materials, ensuring strict adherence to safety guidelines and procedures.
Apply effective techniques to accurately receive, store, and distribute materials.
Compete with speed and accuracy to fulfill customer orders and maintain inventory control.
Determine and resolve any discrepancies or issues with materials, collaborating with team members as needed.
Successfully implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize material handling processes.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
Preferred: Experience in distribution, warehouse or supply chain or related field
Preferred: Experience with warehouse equipment
Proven experience in material handling or a related field is preferred.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet strict deadlines.
Proficient in using computer systems and software for inventory management.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Able to work independently and set priorities
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Able to work as part of a team
Able to work with methods to handle, process and store specimens using a computerized storage and retrieval system
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
Able to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents, and marked changes in temperature.
Must use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety protocols.
Able to lift and carry 50 lbs and push up to 70 lbs
Periodically w ork in walk-in freezers and refrigerators for up to 5 hours per day
