Duration: 11 months+ of Contract with (temp-to-hire)
Schedule: Evening Shift, 2:45 PM – 11:15 PM, six-week rotating schedule, working every third weekend
Position Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) in the Microbiology Lab performs high-complexity laboratory testing in accordance with CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and laboratory safety regulations. The technologist ensures accurate and timely analysis of patient specimens, maintains laboratory records, adheres to quality control procedures, and supports regulatory compliance. The role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced clinical environment.

Position Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) in the Microbiology Lab performs high-complexity laboratory testing in accordance with CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and laboratory safety regulations. The technologist ensures accurate and timely analysis of patient specimens, maintains laboratory records, adheres to quality control procedures, and supports regulatory compliance. The role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle and process patient specimens according to laboratory procedures and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform high-complexity testing using approved laboratory methods.
- Review, interpret, and release test results accurately and timely.
- Maintain records of all testing, proficiency samples, quality control, instrument calibrations, and maintenance activities.
- Identify and resolve test system problems, escalating issues to senior staff or supervisor when necessary.
- Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance standards.
- Report STAT and critical results according to departmental procedures.
- Maintain proper inventory and quality of reagents, test kits, and other laboratory materials.
- Participate in new procedure training, monthly departmental meetings, and safety/educational sessions.
- Support regulatory inspections and audits as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- Solid understanding of laboratory testing principles, QC/QA, and microbiology procedures.
- Ability to work with multiple computer systems and maintain accurate records.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and laboratory safety standards.
- Ability to protect patient confidentiality at all times.
Education & Certification:
- BS in Medical Technology preferred, or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.
- Foreign-educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF; U.S. candidates must provide official transcripts.
- Eligible for or holding national certification as an MT/MLT (ASCP or AMT).
- Licensure as required by state regulations.
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing.
- Microbiology experience strongly preferred.
Additional Information:
- Evening shift (2:45 PM – 11:15 PM), six-week rotating schedule.
- Work every third weekend.
- Must interact with multiple departments and occasionally with clients.
