Job Summary
The Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) serves as the primary point of contact for patients and represents the organization in clinical and patient service settings. This role is responsible for performing high-quality venipuncture and specimen collection, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and ensuring accuracy, safety, confidentiality, and compliance with established procedures. The PSR II fosters patient trust through clear communication, professionalism, and compassionate care. Assignments may include physician offices, patient service centers, or other locations based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities

Perform daily job duties accurately, efficiently, and on time under the direction of the area supervisor

Collect and process clinical and forensic specimens following established protocols

Perform venipuncture and capillary collections for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients

Verify patient identity, demographics, and specimen labeling; obtain patient signature post-venipuncture

Ensure specimens are labeled correctly in the patient’s presence

Maintain accurate records, documentation, and chain-of-custody requirements

Create a safe, professional, and patient-focused environment

Demonstrate leadership behaviors, process excellence, and attention to detail

Protect patient confidentiality and ensure data accuracy at all times

Promote a positive company image to patients, clients, coworkers, and the public
Required Skills and Competencies

Ability to deliver high-quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment

Strong phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric collections

Excellent customer service and patient communication skills

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities

Proficiency in keyboarding and data entry

Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to change

Schedule and Work Requirements

Flexible availability required, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts

Ability to travel and work at multiple locations with minimal notice

Must be punctual, dependable, and able to complete full scheduled shifts
-
Excessive absenteeism or tardiness may result in termination
Education Requirements
-
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
-
Medical assistant or paramedic training (preferred)
-
Phlebotomy certification (preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington)
Experience Requirements
-
1–3 years of phlebotomy experience (required), including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections
-
Minimum 2 years of experience in a Patient Service Center environment (preferred)
-
Customer service experience in a retail or service environment (highly preferred)
