Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I):
Job Summary
The Specimen Processing Technician I provides essential support in a fast-paced laboratory environment. This role focuses on accurate specimen handling, data entry, and compliance with quality and safety standards to ensure customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Process laboratory specimens including presorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging, and delivery to lab areas
- Perform high-volume data entry (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour)
- Accurately identify specimen types and related test orders
- Follow changing compliance and test-ordering regulations
- Meet productivity, quality, and turnaround time standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Communicate effectively with team members and leadership
- Demonstrate flexibility in response to daily operational changes
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Production-driven laboratory setting
- Biohazard environment with required safety practices
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Primarily night shift
- Availability required for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Laboratory or specimen processing experience
- Medical background or knowledge of medical terminology
- Hospital or production-environment experience
