Phlebotomist I - 1st Shift
Job Title: Phlebotomist I – 1st Shift
Location: New Haven, CT
Duration: 3+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Eastern Time)
Pay: $21/Hr
Job Summary
The Phlebotomist I / Patient Services Representative I (PSR I) serves as the face of the organization, directly interacting with patients as part of their routine healthcare or critical diagnostic journeys. This role is responsible for collecting high-quality blood specimens and preparing them for laboratory testing while ensuring patient safety, comfort, confidentiality, and accuracy. The PSR I creates a trusting and professional environment by clearly explaining procedures and performing collections in a skillful and compassionate manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily phlebotomy and specimen processing activities accurately and within established turnaround times
- Collect clinical and forensic specimens following approved policies, procedures, and safety standards
- Prepare specimens for laboratory testing according to established practices
- Maintain complete and accurate records, documentation, and logs
- Provide excellent patient care while demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and discretion
- Ensure a safe, clean, and professional work environment
- Demonstrate organizational commitment and leadership behaviors
- Promote a positive image to patients, clients, employees, and the general public
- Work independently under the direction of the area supervisor with minimal on-site supervision
Job Requirements
- Ability to deliver quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong ability to work independently
- Excellent phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric collections
- Flexibility to work based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime as required
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and confidentiality
- Proficiency in keyboarding and data entry
Required Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Medical training preferred (Medical Assistant, Paramedic, or similar)
- Phlebotomy certification preferred
- Required in California, Nevada, and Washington
Work Experience
- Minimum of 6 months phlebotomy experience required
- 1+ year of phlebotomy experience preferred
- Prior customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred
- Data entry and computer experience required
