Job Title: Specimen Technician - 1st Shift
Job Location: Okatie, SC
Job Duration: 4 Months (Possible Extension)
Shift (Mon–Fri), 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST

Pay Rate: $17.20/hr. on W2


Job Summary:
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role involves handling and processing laboratory specimens with a strong focus on accuracy, productivity, and quality. The position requires adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform specimen processing tasks including A-station, presorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging/microfilming
  • Handle pickup and delivery of specimens to the laboratory
  • Accurately enter data (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour)
  • Ensure proper handling and identification of specimen types based on test orders
  • Follow all compliance regulations related to laboratory testing and specimen processing
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Adhere to company policies, safety standards, and quality requirements
  • Communicate effectively with team members and other staff
  • Adapt to changing procedures, priorities, and customer demands


Work Environment:

  • Production-based laboratory setting with strict productivity and quality standards
  • Exposure to biohazard materials; adherence to safety protocols is required
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Flexible schedule required, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts as needed


Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Strong data entry skills
  • Good organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to learn and apply laboratory procedures and compliance requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior laboratory or specimen processing experience
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Previous hospital or clinical laboratory experience
  • Experience working in a production or high-volume environment
