Job Title: Laboratory Supervisor
Job Location: Roanoke, VA
Duration: 12 months+
Shift: Must be flexible as overseas all shifts in hospital setting
Job Description:
Team Leadership:
• Supervise daily lab operations, assign tasks, and prioritize workflows.
• Interview, hire, train, and evaluate staff performance.
• Foster staff development through mentoring, coaching, and corrective counseling.
• Laboratory Oversight:
• Perform and review specialized diagnostic tests, with the ability to confirm and interpret results.
• Approve complex and problematic test results.
• Evaluate methodologies and recommend enhancements.
• Quality Control & Compliance:
• Initiate and monitor quality control procedures.
• Ensure compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and lab safety protocols.
• Maintain accurate documentation for inspections and audits.
• Hands-On Testing Support:
• Step in to perform tests during staff shortages or peak workloads.
• Assist physicians by confidently communicating test interpretations.
Administrative Duties:
• Manage inventory, lab safety, and cleanliness of equipment and areas.
• Participate in regulatory inspections and complete special reports and projects.
Education & Certification:
• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (REQUIRED).
• Current Virginia State Board Certification as MLS or MLT (REQUIRED).
Experience:
• Minimum of 4–5 years in a supervisory role strongly preferred (1–2 years acceptable with strong leadership and people skills).
• Hands-on experience in hospital-based Microbiology and/or Molecular Testing is REQUIRED.
• Strong understanding of clinical lab operations and regulations.
