Specimen Technician
Job Title: Specimen Technician
Job Location: Baltimore, MD- 21227
Duration: 7 Months
Shift time: Monday- Friday (8pm to 4:30am)
Pay Rane: $17.20 - $22.00/ hr on w2
Job Summary
The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This role requires a data entry background and involves tasks such as specimen sorting, delivery, imaging, centrifugation, and aliquoting. The position demands accuracy, confidence, good organizational skills, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to changing compliance regulations related to test ordering. Flexibility and the ability to meet customer demands are critical. This role primarily operates on the night shift with availability required for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as needed.
Key Responsibilities

Perform specimen processing tasks including A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory

Imaging and microfilming of specimens

Centrifugation and aliquoting of samples

Accurately enter data with a minimum of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour

Maintain confidence, accuracy, and timeliness in all tasks

Learn and understand specimen types and related test orders

Comply with changing regulations and test ordering requirements

Maintain a neat and clean work area

Communicate effectively with all levels of staff

Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing work demands
Work Environment

Production environment focused on productivity, quality standards, and departmental deadlines

Work involves exposure to biohazards; strict adherence to safety practices required

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods

Strong interpersonal skills fostering a positive work environment
Qualifications
-
High school diploma or equivalent required
-
Basic computer skills required; knowledge of laboratory testing or specimen processing preferred

No prior experience required, though previous laboratory or production experience is preferred
-
Medical background including medical terminology applicable to clinical laboratories is preferred
-
Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not mandatory
Additional Requirements

Majority of work performed on night shift

Must be available for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime based on staffing needs
