Job Summary:
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for delivering accurate, reliable test results on raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and environmental samples. Job Summary:
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for delivering accurate, reliable test results on raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and environmental samples. These results are critical for customer specifications and internal quality assurance. The role requires proficient use of sensitive lab instruments and strict adherence to all relevant regulatory, safety, and quality standards including ISO certifications and OSHA regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- You will perform routine analyses on raw materials, in-process, finished product, and environmental samples, accurately recording data in LIMS and SAP. It is important to maintain proficiency with laboratory methods and equipment. You will conduct preventive maintenance and troubleshoot instruments as needed. Daily quality control checks on designated equipment must be performed, and proper hazardous waste removal should be ensured every day. Maintaining accurate documentation and filing of test records is required.
- You will manage the lifecycle of retain samples, including weekly transfers to the retain room, and assist in customer complaint investigations. Additionally, you will maintain the sample retain room and dispose of expired samples monthly. Managing the inventory of gas chromatography gases and laboratory supplies is also part of the role, ensuring adequate stock levels at all times.
- It is essential to maintain knowledge of test procedures and enter maintenance work notifications as needed. Maintaining a safe laboratory environment and supporting Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) observations are part of your responsibilities. You may also be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Context & Environment:
- Collaborate with salaried, non-salaried, and hourly workers to safely analyze hazardous materials such as mercaptans and sulfides.
- Support and comply with site HESQ policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., Behavioral Based Safety, SafeStart).
- Promote reporting of all health, safety, environmental, and near-miss incidents.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Required (prior to hiring):
- High School Diploma
- Passing of a pre-employment physical
- Previous experience or training in the petrochemical industry or similar lab environment
- Good communication skills
- Minimum 2 years accredited training in chemistry or lab techniques
- 4-year degree in Chemistry (for advancement potential)
Required (to become qualified Laboratory Technician):
- Completion of initial classroom training in environmental, safety, quality, emergency response, and lab methods (including waste management, spill response, DOT, HAZCOM)
- Completion of initial on-the-job training under a qualified technician or supervisor
- Class D license for potable water operator
