Medical Laboratory Scientist
Duration: 4months
Location: Charlotte NC
Shift: 8am to 5pm M-F
Job Responsibilities:
-
Specimen Handling & Testing
-
Follow laboratory protocols for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, and reporting.
-
Maintain records of patient test results and ensure accurate documentation.
-

Quality Control & Compliance
-
Test proficiency samples in the same manner as patient specimens.
-
Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and lab safety guidelines.
-
Comply with laboratory quality control policies and document all activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
-

Testing Procedures & Result Reporting
-
Analyze specimens using approved procedures (refer to department SOPs).
-
Review and release test results accurately and promptly.
-
Report STAT and critical results according to department procedures.
-

Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution
-
Identify and resolve issues that may affect test performance or result reporting.
-
Notify the senior technologist or supervisor of unresolved issues.
-
Document all corrective actions taken.

Equipment & Supplies Management
-
Ensure reagents/test kits are properly labeled with received, opened, and expiration dates.
-
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the department.
-

Training & Meetings
-
Participate in training on new procedures and attend monthly departmental meetings.
-
Engage in safety training and be familiar with the safety manual and equipment.
-

Communication & Support
-
Respond to inquiries from clients and lab personnel when necessary.
-
Interact professionally with other departments and clients.
-

Regulatory Readiness
-
Participate in government or regulatory inspections if required.
-

Other Duties
-
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
-
Strong understanding of clinical laboratory testing procedures.
-
Proficiency with computers and laboratory information systems.
-
Familiarity with Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC).
-
Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple processes simultaneously.
-
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
-
Commitment to patient confidentiality and data integrity.
Education Requirements:
-
Preferred: BS in Medical Technology.
-
Acceptable Alternatives:
-
BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology.
-
Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
-
Grandfathered qualification as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14, 1990).

Credential Evaluation:
-
Foreign-educated candidates: Evaluation from IERF.
-
U.S.-educated candidates: Original transcript required.
-

Certification: Eligible or certified as MT/MLT through ASCP or AMT.
Work Experience:
-
Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in high complexity testing preferred.
-
Required: Clinical experience in highly complex testing for candidates with BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology.

Must meet national and state licensure requirements as applicable.
Special Requirements:

Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple procedures.

Must work effectively with other departments.
-
Customer interaction may be required; strong service skills needed.

Must maintain strict patient confidentiality.
