Specimen Technician

Overview: The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides essential support within the Specimen Processing Department. The role requires strong data entry skills and an ability to perform various tasks, including A-station duties, specimen pickup and delivery, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. The technician must ensure tasks are completed efficiently, accurately, and on time.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform tasks such as A-station, presorting, pickup, delivery of processed specimens, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.

Maintain confidence and accuracy in all tasks, ensuring timely completion.

Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to learn about specimen types related to client test orders.

Adapt to evolving compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily.

Ensure high-quality standards for customer satisfaction.

Demonstrate flexibility to accommodate varying work demands, including night shifts, weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.

Operate in a production environment with emphasis on productivity and meeting departmental completion times.

Maintain a neat and safe work environment, adhering to safety and compliance policies.
Working Conditions:

The role is primarily a night-shift position, but flexibility for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime is required.

Work involves handling specimens in a biohazard environment; safety protocols must be followed.

The technician must be able to stand or sit for extended periods and communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
Education & Experience:
-
Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Knowledge: Basic computer skills, with knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing preferred.

Work Experience: Previous laboratory or hospital experience is a plus, though not required. Medical background or knowledge of medical terminology is also beneficial. Experience in a production environment is preferred.
Additional Requirements:

Documentation of COVID-19 and flu vaccination may be required.
