Job Title: Senior Optics Technician
Location: Corning, NY 14831
Duration: 10 Months+ Contract (possibility of extension)

Schedule: Mon - Fri, 8 am – 5 pm
Pay Rate: $44.00/ hourly
 
Job Description:
Top Skills/Requirements:
  • 5 years of experience in a lab environment executing experiments.
  • Clear and solid understanding of how to apply the scientific method.
  • Hands on experience with laser systems and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and understanding of engineering principles is critical.
 
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the design, development, and continuous improvement of laser-based processes and systems.
  • Execute experimental plans, collect data, and document experimental settings and results.
  • Interact with internal customers to understand incoming laser processing requests and ensure timely delivery of sample parts.
  • Support laser system maintenance, including assembly, installation, debugging, and start-up of new laser setups.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date process and safety documentation.
  • Ensure lab cleanliness, safety, and organization while managing inventory levels and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience
  • Basic understanding and application of standard engineering or scientific theories, concepts, principles, and techniques.
  • Proven ability to meet project deadlines and deliver technical solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with laser systems and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to ask questions, make recommendations, and raise concerns.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, fostering a positive and team-oriented work environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and a willingness to perform various tasks as needed.
  • Professional and regular communication with technicians, scientists, internal customers, department management, and suppliers.
  • Commitment to safety, including experience leading safety upgrades and conducting risk assessments in a lab environment.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Teams.
 
Education:
  • Associates preferred but not required.
