Job Description: Specimen Technician (SPT I)

Location: Lewisville, TX
Duration: 3+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Tuesday – Saturday | 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM




Position Overview

The Specimen Technician (SPT I) is responsible for performing essential support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This role requires strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fastpaced production environment. The SPT I plays a critical role in ensuring highquality specimen handling that supports laboratory operations and customer satisfaction.




Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general specimen processing tasks, including:
    • A-station operations
    • Presort activities
    • Specimen pickup and delivery to laboratory departments
    • Imaging/microfilming
    • Centrifugation and aliquoting
  • Enter specimen data with accuracy (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour).
  • Maintain a high level of organization and understand specimen types related to tests ordered.
  • Learn and adhere to compliance and regulatory requirements, which may change daily.
  • Follow productivity, quality, and departmental completion time standards.
  • Communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and safe work environment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to accommodate daily operational changes.
  • Work in a biohazard environment and follow all safety protocols.
  • Sit or stand for prolonged periods as required.
  • Support night shift operations, with availability for weekends, holidays, oncall duties, and overtime as needed.



Qualifications



Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.


Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong data entry capabilities.
  • Ability to work in a production-focused environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changes and handle varying daily demands.


Preferred Experience:

  • Previous laboratory or specimen processing experience.
  • Medical background, including familiarity with clinical laboratory terminology.
  • Experience in a hospital laboratory setting.
  • Prior production environment experience.
