Location: Salinas CA
Duration: 3 Months
Pay: $24/hr on w2.
Duties:
Position works under the supervision of the Director, Human Resources. This position performs Human Resources related duties at the professional level with both breadth and depth across the functional area of HR Leave & Absence/ Management. This position is empowered to independently resolve a broad range of customer inquiries and requests.
Responsible for HR customer inquiries and requests through various channels Phone, Email, Walk-In, Mail, Fax, Self-Service etc. Conducts warm transfers to HR specialists as needed - sharing relevant details required to ensure a positive outcome for our customers.
Continuously seeks opportunities to improve access, response times and the delivery of HR services including expanding opportunities for self-service.
Partners with the Leave Management specialist in determining leave eligibility, initiating leaves, supporting customers with inquiries during the absence period and processing the return to work.
Partners with employees to determine leave eligibility and type. Navigates employee and leader through the leave approval process and transition. Manages the leave of absence period and processes the return to work.
In determining the leave eligibility and type, the Leave specialist reviews SVMH policy, union contracts, federal, state, and local laws. Navigates the employee through eligible leave options and impact on current employment status and salary continuation (e.g., paid time off and sick time availability, integration with state disability, and waiting periods).
Initiates the SVMH Leave of Absence request form and guides the employee in the process of formally requesting a leave. Routes the request form to the respective leader to approve or deny the leave of absence. The Leave specialist reviews the completed form for final approval and initiates the leave in the HR Information System (HRIS).
Prepares communication to the employee, leader, and employee health related to the initiation of the leave, extensions, exhaustion and incomplete documentation. Keeps an open dialogue with the employee to ensure they provide proper documentation, confirming intent to return and updates the HRIS system accordingly.
Partners with the HRIS, Reporting, and Compliance Specialist to maintain employee database, auditing and provides standard HR reports to the business as needed.
Creates, inputs, and maintains computer data files, tracks and calculates data, and compiles reports as necessary.
Assists in the cover/relief of other department staff as needed and assists with special projects as necessary. Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in the Hospital or department activities.
Is able to work independently with a minimal amount of supervision.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills:
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience preferably in Human Resources & Leave and Absence management. Knowledge of fundamental principles and practices of Human Resources Administration preferred. Experience in one or more of the functional areas of HR (Talent Acquisition, Leave of Absence, Compliance, Total Rewards) is preferred.
