Shift:

• Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Arrive 30 minutes before scheduled surgery for set-up
   

Job Summary:
Maintains and operates cardiopulmonary pump, Cell Saver, auto transfuser, and intra-aortic balloon pump during invasive cardiovascular procedures. Provides assistance to physicians and staff as needed. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Associates may be required to perform other reasonably related job duties as assigned. Duties and Responsibilities:

• Meets expectations of the applicable One Client Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Responsible for the delivery of patient care as needed during a surgical procedure.
• Maintains and operates cardiopulmonary pump, Cell Saver, auto transfuser, and intra-aortic balloon pump during invasive cardiovascular procedures.
• Provides assistance to physicians as needed.
• Operates life support equipment for patients undergoing open-heart surgery, specifically the cardiopulmonary bypass machine (pump).
• Sets up and operates left and/or right heart bypass pumps.
• Operates extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and/or total or partial artificial heart console systems.
• Sets up and operates Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumping system.
• Demonstrates full knowledge of heparin, protamine, anticoagulation-titration analysis systems.
• Serves in an advisory capacity to the surgeon responsible for ordering cardiac drugs.
• Sets up and operates Auto transfusion (blood cell saver) equipment for cardiovascular, orthopedic, vascular, and other surgical procedures requiring auto transfusion.
• Demonstrates understanding and proficiency in patient management responsibilities including anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, cardiology, surgical techniques, physiologic monitoring, and patient care.
• Reviews basic histology and anatomy to understand patients’ disease processes.
• Assists in setting up and inserting the IABP in various settings: OR, Cardiac Cath Lab, ICU, or other areas.
• Ensures ordering of supplies and organizational activity needs.
• Ensures heart-lung machines are cleaned and in good working order per manufacturer’s recommendations.
• Assists in providing required data for Quality and Infection Control as needed.

Education/Skills:

• Completion of an accredited perfusionist program required.

Experience:

• 3 years of experience preferred.
   

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

• BLS required (AHA only).
• Perfusionist TX state licensure required.
• Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion preferred.
