Medical Laboratory Scientist - Traveler
Location: Presque Isle, ME, 04769
Shift:22:00-:6:30 EST M TO . rotational weekends/holidays
Duration: 3 Months
Role Summary
The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing high-complexity clinical laboratory testing, specimen analysis, quality control, and result reporting in compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory standard operating procedures. This role ensures accuracy, reliability, and timely delivery of patient test results while maintaining regulatory and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities

Perform specimen handling, processing, testing, and result reporting according to laboratory SOPs.

Analyze patient specimens using approved testing methods and instrumentation.

Review, validate, and release laboratory test results accurately and timely.

Perform proficiency testing in the same manner as patient specimen testing.

Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety guidelines at all times.

Execute and document quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), calibrations, maintenance, and corrective actions.

Identify test system deviations, troubleshoot issues, and notify senior technologists or supervisors when necessary.

Document all corrective actions when systems fall outside acceptable performance limits.

Report STAT and critical results following departmental protocols.

Maintain accurate and complete records for all on-site testing performed.

Ensure reagents and test kits are properly labeled with receipt, open, and expiration dates.

Maintain cleanliness and professional appearance of the laboratory department.

Participate in training on new procedures, monthly department meetings, and continuing education.

Complete required safety training and demonstrate knowledge of safety manuals and equipment.

Support regulatory inspections and audits as required.

Provide technical support and respond to inquiries from laboratory staff or clients as applicable.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge & Skills

Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory testing and high-complexity testing environments.

Proficiency in quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) practices.

Familiarity with all laboratory sections and workflows.

Strong computer skills with the ability to work across multiple laboratory information systems (LIS).

Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Education Requirements

Preferred: BS in Medical Technology

Acceptable:
-
BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology
-
Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
-
Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (March 14, 1990)

Foreign-educated candidates must submit a credential evaluation from IERF.

U.S.-educated candidates must submit official transcripts.

Must possess or be eligible for national certification (ASCP or AMT).
Experience Requirements

Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.

At least 1 year of high-complexity testing experience required for candidates with BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology.

National and State licensure as required.
