Patient Care Technician
Job Title: Patient Care Technician
Location: Edison, NJ, 08818
Duration: 06/30/2025 – 11/05/2025
Shift: Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Schedule: 3 days/week, 36 hours/week, Emergency Department, weekends and holidays required, no on-call
Pay Range: $24-$27/hr.
Job Summary:
• Welcomes patients and checks for proper identification bracelets.
• Prepares the patient for assessment/admission, physical examination, and procedures.
• Draws intravenous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric aged patients using proper aseptic collection techniques, assures appropriate labeling and processing of specimens.
• Performs EKGs for patients as directed.
• Assures the presence, functionality, and cleanliness of all necessary equipment.
• Assists in transporting patients to departments or units as requested.
• Assists with patient meals or feeds patients as needed.
• Checks inventory of assigned area and restocks as directed.
• Prepares room environment for admission.
• Provides direct hygiene and comfort care to patients, including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, incontinent care, and bed making.
• Takes vital signs on admission under RN direction, documents accordingly, and notifies RN of results.
• Performs and documents glucose finger sticks and collects other specimens as directed.
• Obtains and documents daily patient weights; observes and documents intake and output.
• Provides a safe environment by answering call lights promptly and communicating changes in patient condition to RN.
• Identifies the needs of the patient population served and adapts care to meet those needs (e.g., age, culture, language, impairments).
• Communicates appropriately with patient, parent, or caregiver based on developmental/educational/literacy level.
• Regular contact with medical center personnel, patients, and visitors.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
• At least one (1) year PCT or CNA experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred
Education:
• High school diploma or GED
• Patient Care Technician Program
Licensure & Certifications:
• EKG Course Certificate
• Phlebotomy Course Certificate
• BLS
