Job Title : Specimen Processing - Specimen Technician
Duration: 2-3months
Location: Indianapolis IN
Shift: 3:30pm -12am M-F
Job Summary:
The SPT I is responsible for providing general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This is a fast-paced, production-based environment that emphasizes accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. The role primarily involves data entry and specimen handling and requires strong organizational skills and adaptability.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform various specimen processing tasks such as:
A-station handling
Presorting
Pick-up and delivery of processed specimens
Imaging/microfilming
Centrifugation and aliquoting
Enter data with a required speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour
Ensure all functions are completed accurately, confidently, and in a timely manner
Understand and process various specimen types related to client test orders
Learn and adapt to frequently changing compliance regulations for test ordering
Maintain effective communication with all levels of staff
Adhere to safety standards and compliance policies
Keep work area clean and organized
Foster a positive and respectful work environment through strong interpersonal skills
Work Environment:
Production-focused environment with set productivity and quality standards
Biohazard exposure; adherence to safety protocols required
Ability to sit or stand for long periods
Night shift availability is common; must be open to:
Weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime as needed
Must demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to change
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills:
Basic computer skills required
Preferred: Familiarity with laboratory testing and specimen processing
Medical background preferred, especially knowledge of clinical lab terminology
Experience:
No prior experience required
Preferred:
Laboratory or hospital lab experience
Experience in a production-based environment
