Location: Gaithersburg, MD 20877
Duration: 3 months+ (Possible Extension)
Shift: 3rd Shift (11:00 PM – 7:30 AM, Monday–Friday) with rotating Saturdays
Pay Rate: $24.14/hr. (W2)
Position Summary:
The Specimen Processing Technician I provides essential support within the Specimen Processing Department, performing specimen handling, processing, and data entry tasks in a fast-paced laboratory environment. This role ensures compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards while supporting accurate and timely specimen processing.

Position Summary:
The Specimen Processing Technician I provides essential support within the Specimen Processing Department, performing specimen handling, processing, and data entry tasks in a fast-paced laboratory environment. This role ensures compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards while supporting accurate and timely specimen processing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform A-station specimen processing, presorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging/microfilming.
- Accurately enter specimen and test information into laboratory systems (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour).
- Maintain productivity and quality standards while meeting departmental turnaround times.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and other departments.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all safety and compliance protocols.
- Demonstrate flexibility to frequent changes in workload, priorities, and customer demands.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills and data entry experience.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous laboratory or specimen processing experience.
- Medical background with knowledge of clinical laboratory terminology.
- Hospital laboratory experience and experience in a high-volume production environment.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to learn complex processes and adapt to frequent changes.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
