Job Title: Chemical Operations Technician
Location: Onsite – Torrance, CA, 90503
Contract Duration: 06+ months possible extension
Pay Rate: $15.25 – $21.35/hr. on w2
Schedule:
- Initial training on day shift for 1 month
- Rotating 12-hour day/night schedule thereafter
- Overtime (scheduled and unscheduled) may be required
- Phone Interview: 30 minutes
- Onsite Interview: 1 hour
Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Torrance Operations Manager, the Chemical Operator – Loader / Packager is primarily responsible for the packaging and shipment of finished goods within the Coating Resins Division. This includes operating and maintaining equipment used in the loading, unloading, cleaning, and packaging of chemical products.
This role is critical to plant efficiency and safety, requiring attention to process discipline, equipment troubleshooting, and adherence to environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) standards. This is an onsite contractor position based at the Torrance manufacturing plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Load/unload and sample trucks, railcars, and ISO containers
- Fill and package drums and totes as per schedule
- Maintain clean and organized work areas (yard and plant)
- Perform field checks, monitor control systems, and operate process equipment
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and initiate maintenance requests in SAP
- Participate in process improvements and maintenance support activities
- Follow Operating Discipline principles to ensure safety and efficiency
- Engage in Immediate Response (IR) team activities and training
- Contribute to site HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment & Quality) programs
- Ensure proper hazardous waste handling and RCRA compliance
- Act as the first and last point of contact for shipping/receiving trucks
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Previous chemical or manufacturing experience (preferred)
- Ability to follow verbal/written instructions and safety procedures
- Basic computer proficiency
- Physically capable of strenuous activities in indoor/outdoor environments
- Willingness to work rotating shifts and overtime
Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria
- Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts and perform physical tasks
