Specimen Technician
Job Title: Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I)
Location: Irving, TX
Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM (Night Shift)
Duration: 3+ Months Contract
Shift Differential: 15%
Job Summary:
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides general support in the Specimen Processing Department within a patient care laboratory environment. Responsibilities include specimen presorting, data entry, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging, and transporting processed specimens to the laboratory. This role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform specimen processing tasks such as presorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging

Enter data with a minimum of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour

Transport processed specimens to the laboratory

Maintain productivity and quality standards in a biohazard environment

Follow safety, compliance, and laboratory procedures

Keep work areas clean and organized

Communicate effectively with team members and staff

Adapt to daily workflow and regulatory changes
Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent
-
Basic computer and data entry skills
-
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
-
Ability to sit or stand for long periods and walk 8–18 miles during shifts

Warehouse, inventory, or production environment experience preferred
-
Medical or laboratory experience preferred but not required
Additional Information:

Night shift role with potential weekends, holidays, overtime, or on-call as needed

Work environment involves handling biological specimens and following safety protocols
