Specimen Technician - 3rd Shift
Job Title: Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I)
Location: Tampa, FL
Duration: 6 months
Shift: 1am-9:30am
Description:
The SPT I provides operational support in the Specimen Processing Department, performing high-volume, detail-oriented tasks in a production laboratory environment. Responsibilities include data entry, specimen presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging, and transport of specimens to the lab. Accuracy, speed, organization, and adaptability are essential, as procedures and compliance requirements may change daily.
This role is critical to quality and customer satisfaction and requires flexibility to meet varying customer and staffing demands.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements

Perform specimen processing tasks accurately and efficiently

Data entry at a rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour

Follow safety, compliance, and biohazard protocols

Maintain clean and organized work areas

Communicate effectively with all staff levels

Adapt to frequent workflow and regulatory changes

Sit or stand for extended periods

Wear required PPE (lab coat, gloves, mask, goggles, etc.)
Work Environment & Schedule

Fast-paced, high-production laboratory setting

Primarily night shift; must be available for weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call as needed

Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required

Punctuality and full shift attendance are mandatory; excessive tardiness/absences not tolerated
Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent
-
Basic computer skills required

No experience required; laboratory, medical, or production experience preferred

Medical terminology and hospital lab experience a plus
Language Requirements

Excellent English skills (spoken and written) required
-
Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
