Digital Transformation Consultant (Capacity Management)

The Digital Transformation Consultant (Capacity Management) will report to the Chief of Staff of the Chief Digital Information Officer and play a pivotal role in modernizing the IT organization s resource and capacity management processes. This role will quickly come up to speed on the IT team s legacy resource and capacity management tools and processes and help the evolve their capabilities to align with the needs of the organization. This position requires an individual with a strong background in developing low-tech, user-friendly processes that effectively capture necessary details for work management. The consultant will collaborate with stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency and improve decision-making capabilities within the team.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
  • Partner with IT leaders and staff across Operations, Applications, Infrastructure, Security, Service Desk, Project Management Office, and other stakeholder groups to conduct thorough assessments of how IT work gets ingested, distributed, prioritized, and completed. Identify current state gaps in how BMCHS IT accounts for resource capacity, assigns resources to different bodies of work, and reprioritizes work with an understanding of resource capacity.
  • Facilitate meetings, workshops, and/or focus groups with IT leadership to collect feedback on how capacity management and staffing work today, prior enhancement efforts, and barriers to potential capacity and resource management enhancements.
  • Design a comprehensive strategy for modernizing resource and capacity management practices. Implement low barrier-to-entry processes for improving capacity management practices, balancing ideal-state, real-time visibility into resource capacity with realistic expectations regarding change management within a legacy team. Consider implementation phases in order to ensure longer-term success.
  • Develop simple processes and templates for capturing work details and managing resource allocations effectively
  • Partner with IT leaders to establish capacity reservation standards in order to ensure teams have sufficient time to complete maintenance, keep the lights on work while balancing the need to address projects, requests, and incidents.
  • Establish a governance structure around capacity management with clear roles and responsibilities (e.g., resource managers, portfolio managers, project managers) to ensure a standardized approach to capacity management across the IT organization.
  • Design and implement reporting tools and processes for understanding capacity constraints in order to influence executive-level decision making around project prioritization, team staffing and budgeting, and downstream business impacts.
  • Establish metrics to assess the effectiveness of implemented processes and make necessary adjustments based on feedback and performance data
  • Create clear documentation and guidelines to facilitate the understanding and implementation of new processes across the team.
  • Conduct training sessions and provide ongoing support to IT staff to ensure successful adoption of new processes.

Job Requirements
EDUCATION:
Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or a related field required

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
None required. Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, ITIL, Agile, Lean Six Sigma) are a plus.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT consulting, project management, or a related role, with a focus on resource and capacity management required Experience in change management and process improvement initiatives Proven experience in supporting legacy systems and teams during transitions to modern practices

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):
  • Strong understanding of IT project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Knowledge of capacity planning and project portfolio management tools (e.g. Planview) and techniques
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify problems and develop effective solutions
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
