Financial Counselor
Job Title: Financial Counselor
Location: West Bend, WI 53095
Duration: 6 months
Schedule Notes:
-
May be required to travel to Milwaukee facility 2 times weekly for 6 weeks while training.
Shift: 1st (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Schedule: 5 days/week, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week, no weekends, no on-call

Education

High School diploma or equivalent (Required)

Bachelor’s degree in social work, case management, healthcare administration, business administration, or related field (Preferred)
Certifications
-
None required
-
State of Wisconsin and Federal Certified Application Counselor Designation (Preferred)
-
In lieu of Certified Application Counselor Designation, current Licensed Health Insurance Agent (Preferred)
Required Skills & Experience
-
Minimum one (1) year experience in healthcare/revenue cycle functions (or other business office), case management, or social work
Preferred Skills & Experience
-
Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software programs
-
Epic experience in a healthcare environment

Social work or case management experience
Job Summary
For patients identified as self-pay or unable to pay, initiates timely account resolution activities to allow elective patient care to proceed as scheduled.
Job Responsibilities

Monitor Financial Counselor work queues and ensure patient financial activities are completed

Secure payment sources for discharged self-pay patients
-
Update patient accounting system per policies and procedures
-
Counsel patients through Medicaid, Victim of Crime, Insurance Exchange, and other assistance programs

Assist patients with Financial Assistance applications

Collect patient deposits and provide cost estimates
-
Communicate with Social Services, Case Management, Registration, and physicians regarding financial issues
-
Confirm required documentation, insurance verification, and precertifications
-
Provide backup coverage across Financial Counselor roles including PM, weekend, and holiday coverage
-
Assist during open enrollment with Qualified Health Plan applications
-
Follow document storage and regulatory compliance requirements
-
Stay current on Certified Application Counselor regulations
-
Other duties as assigned
