Job Title: Lab Assistant
Job Location: Denver, CO
Job Duration: 6+ Months
Shift: 8am - 4:30pm M-F
Pay Rate: $20/hr. on W2
Job Summary:
Perform various routine laboratory functions accurately and precisely to support laboratory professionals and facilitate production.
Basic Purpose:
Assist with daily laboratory activities to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
Job Requirements & Responsibilities
- Sort and receive specimens in the department.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance on some lab equipment.
- Centrifuge specimens and print extra labels as needed.
- Record data such as temperature charts.
- Store and retrieve specimens appropriately.
- Prepare reagents and media for use in the department.
- Prepare specimens at workstations for testing, including:
- Building worklists
- Aliquoting specimens into sample cups
- Checking specimens for clots and fibrin
- Inoculation and slide preparation
- Perform QA/QC duties as assigned.
- Resolve pending specimen lists and locate missing samples.
- Decontaminate work areas regularly.
- Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
- Maintain departmental files and records.
- Change gas cylinders as needed.
- Follow all PPE requirements and safety regulations.
- Use laboratory computer systems and operate PCs.
- Dispose of biohazardous materials according to protocol.
- Complete required training and competency checklists.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical assistant training is helpful.
- Math and science courses preferred.
Special Requirements:
- Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks for workstation efficiency.
- Ability to retain information after training.
- Must interact courteously and respectfully with coworkers and customers.
