Location: Lewisville, TX 75067
Duration: 3 Months+ (Possible Extension)

Department: Specimen Processing
Shift: Primarily Night Shift (weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime required based on staffing needs)
Environment: Production-based laboratory setting
 
Position Summary:
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role involves high-volume data entry and laboratory support functions such as presorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming, and specimen pickup and delivery. The SPT I must perform all duties with accuracy, confidence, and efficiency to ensure quality and customer satisfaction in a fast-paced production environment.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform specimen processing functions including A-station, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging.
  • Pick up and deliver processed specimens to the laboratory.
  • Enter data at a minimum of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness while meeting productivity and quality standards.
  • Learn and understand specimen types and associated tests ordered by clients.
  • Stay current with compliance regulations related to test ordering (subject to frequent changes).
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Adhere to safety policies and biohazard handling procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a changing environment.
 
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • Production-focused laboratory environment with emphasis on quality and turnaround times.
  • Exposure to biohazard materials; adherence to strict safety practices required.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
 
Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
 
Required Knowledge & Skills:
  • Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to daily regulatory and workflow changes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
 
Preferred Experience:
  • Previous laboratory or hospital laboratory experience.
  • Medical background with knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience in laboratory specimen processing.
  • Experience working in a production environment.
