Lab Assistant - 3rd shift
Job Title: Specimen Technician
Location: Irving, TX, 75063
Duration: 3-4 Months (possibility of extension)
Time: 1 AM - 9:30 AM Tuesday -Saturday
Position Summary
The Laboratory Assistant performs routine laboratory support tasks that ensure efficient workflow and accurate testing within the lab. This role supports laboratory professionals by preparing specimens, maintaining equipment, organizing workstations, and performing essential quality and safety procedures. The Laboratory Assistant must follow established protocols and maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized environment.
Key Responsibilities

Sort, receive, and log incoming specimens within the department.

Perform routine instrument maintenance as assigned.

Centrifuge specimens, print additional labels, and record required data (e.g., temperature logs).

Manage specimen storage and retrieval.

Prepare reagents, media, and materials needed for laboratory testing.

Prepare specimens for analysis, including:

Building worklists
-
Aliquoting specimens into sample cups
-
Checking for clots, fibrin, or other issues

Inoculating samples
-
Slide preparation
-

Complete QA/QC tasks as required.

Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.

Decontaminate work areas and follow all PPE and safety regulations.

Perform weekly radioactive wipe testing.

Maintain files and department records.
-
Change gas cylinders safely and correctly.

Use laboratory computer systems and PCs for data entry, test tracking, and documentation.

Dispose of biohazardous materials properly.

Complete all required training and competency checklists.

Perform other related duties as needed.
Education
-
High school diploma or equivalent required.
-
Medical assistant training helpful.
-
Math and science coursework preferred.
Work Experience

No prior experience required; training will be provided.
