Specimen Technician

Location: Lewisville, TX
Duration: 3+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Tuesday – Saturday | 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM

The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) provides essential support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This role requires strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production laboratory environment. The SPT I plays a critical role in ensuring specimen quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction while adapting to frequent operational and regulatory changes.

• Perform general specimen processing functions including:
  • A-Station operations
  • Pre-sort activities
  • Pickup and delivery of processed specimens to laboratory areas
  • Imaging and microfilming
  • Centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens
• Accurately enter data with a requirement of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
• Learn and identify specimen types related to tests ordered by clients
• Understand and comply with regulatory and compliance requirements that may change daily
• Maintain accuracy, confidence, and efficiency while meeting departmental productivity and quality standards
• Work effectively in a biohazard environment while following all safety procedures
• Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with laboratory standards
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff
• Demonstrate flexibility to support changing workloads, customer demands, and operational needs

• Production-based department with strict quality and turnaround time standards
• Exposure to biohazard materials with required adherence to safety protocols
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
• Majority of work performed on the night shift
• Must be available for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime, as required by staffing needs
