Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Job Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Location: Plainfield, NJ
Duration: 5+ Months (Possible Extension)
Pay Rate: $80 - $85/hr. on W2
Shift: Day Shift
Schedule: 8-hour shifts, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday; two Wednesdays per month as needed), one Saturday per month, no holidays, no on-call
Job Summary:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will perform diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures in a hospital outpatient department setting, supporting cardiac and general nuclear imaging services. This role involves preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, operating imaging equipment, and ensuring radiation safety and image quality. The technologist will collaborate with physicians and radiology staff to deliver accurate diagnostic results while maintaining compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Operate nuclear medicine equipment and perform radionuclide imaging and function studies
- Prepare, calibrate, and administer radiopharmaceuticals following safety protocols
- Evaluate nuclear medicine images using PACS to ensure diagnostic quality and proper identification
- Provide radiation protection for patients and staff in accordance with NRC and state regulations
- Assist physicians with therapeutic and diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures
- Prepare radioactive tracer compounds and assay radionuclides
- Receive, inspect, document, store, and dispose of radiopharmaceuticals per regulatory guidelines
- Maintain accurate records related to radioisotope use and accountability
- Ensure cleanliness and contamination-free conditions of rooms, equipment, and personnel
- Rotate assignments including Cardiology and PET/CT as required
- Utilize EPIC, Teletracking, Nuclear Medicine Information Systems, and scheduling tools
- Greet and assist patients following AIDET standards
- Adhere to organizational competencies, attendance, and standards of behavior
- Deliver patient care tailored to age, culture, language, and special needs
Requirements:
- Minimum one (1) year of clinical experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in a busy hospital setting
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of an approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology
- Valid NJDEP license
- ARRT or NMTCB certification
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience starting IVs and performing cardiac nuclear stress testing
