ENTRY Phlebotomist I
Job Description: Entry Phlebotomist I / Patient Services Representative I
Location: Ellenton, FL
Duration: 1+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Position Overview
The Entry Phlebotomist I / Patient Services Representative I (PSR I) serves as the face of the organization, providing a welcoming and professional experience to patients. This entry-level role combines front-line customer service with the opportunity to develop phlebotomy skills and grow within the healthcare field.
The individual will greet patients, support check-in processes, maintain the waiting area, and gradually train in phlebotomy procedures. Success in this role requires a compassionate approach to patient care, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to confidentiality and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Interaction & Customer Service
- Greet patients warmly and assist with check-in using kiosks or handheld devices
- Address patient questions and concerns with empathy and professionalism
- Ensure a positive, respectful, and confidential patient experience
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming lobby/waiting area
Operational Support
- Perform daily tasks accurately and within established timelines
- Maintain required documentation and patient records
- Assist with workflow coordination, including covering breaks when needed
- Uphold all safety and compliance standards
Phlebotomy Training & Duties
- Participate in on-the-job training to learn phlebotomy skills
- Perform specimen collection and processing (clinical and forensic) once trained
- Follow established procedures for specimen handling and patient safety
- Demonstrate confidence and accuracy in blood collection procedures
Required Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
Experience
- 1–2 years of customer-facing experience (Required)
(e.g., retail, hospitality, home health aide, or similar) - Basic computer and data entry skills (Required)
- Prior phlebotomy experience is not required
Skills & Competencies
- Strong customer service and communication skills (highly critical)
- Compassionate approach to patient care
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and accuracy
- Willingness and eagerness to learn new skills, especially phlebotomy
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Professional demeanor with a positive attitude
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to train in and perform phlebotomy duties
- Candidates interested only in front desk/greeter roles without learning phlebotomy should not apply
