Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: 40 Hours/Week || 4x10 OR 5x8 Schedule
Shift Details: Day Shift || 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Job Summary
The Surgical Assistant provides direct intraoperative assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures to support safe, efficient, and effective surgical operations.
The Surgical Assistant is responsible for assisting with patient positioning, tissue handling, exposure and visualization of the operative field, hemostasis, suturing, wound closure, dressing application, and sterile surgical support activities.
This role requires advanced surgical knowledge, strong technical skills, excellent hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced operating room environment.
Candidates with robotic surgery and orthopedic surgical experience are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons directly during operative procedures
- Position patients appropriately for surgical exposure
- Provide visualization of operative field using retractors and surgical techniques
- Handle tissue and assist with surgical manipulation
- Perform suctioning, irrigating, and sponging during procedures
- Assist with hemostasis and bleeding control techniques
- Assist with suturing, wound closure, and dressing application
- Utilize sterile technique and maintain surgical field integrity
- Apply appropriate surgical dressings and immobilization materials
- Assist with harvesting veins, tendons, bone, and tissue when required
- Support robotic and orthopedic surgical procedures
- Collaborate with OR nurses, surgical technologists, anesthesia, and surgeons
- Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and operative equipment
- Respond to on-call surgical cases as needed
- Maintain compliance with hospital surgical safety and infection control standards
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Surgical Assisting
OR - Completion of accredited Surgical Assisting program
- BLS Certification (AHA)
- Strong anatomy and physiology knowledge
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Excellent hand-eye coordination
- Operating Room experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Orthopedic surgical experience
- Robotic surgery experience
- First Assist experience
- NSAA, CFA, NCCPA, RNFA, or NASC certifications
- Acute care hospital OR background
