Buyer Assistant
Job Title: Buyer Assistant
Job Location: Cortland, NY 13045
Job Duration: (2 Months with possible extension)
Pay Rate : $29/hr -$30/hr. on W2
Job Description:
- Assist the Buyer in purchasing productive and non-productive materials and services.
- This role involves independent work following established procedures with access to supervisory support for exceptional cases.
- Responsibilities include supplier communication, purchase order follow-ups, invoice verification, and maintaining vendor records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist Buyer with procurement of materials and services
- Maintain accurate records of vendor pricing and terms
- Manage and update lists of approved/reliable suppliers
- Respond to internal inquiries regarding vendors, pricing, and availability
- Confirm purchase orders and verify invoices with suppliers
- Follow up on issues related to defective or rejected materials
- Alert supervision of unusual supply or sourcing issues
- Support sourcing for parts not currently assigned to a Buyer or Senior Buyer
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, or a related field – or equivalent experience
Required Skills & Experience:
3–5 years of related purchasing/procurement experience
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Intermediate)
Experience using Lotus Notes or similar email platforms (Intermediate)
Knowledge of commodities, materials, and products used in purchasing
Ability to read blueprints and understand engineering documents
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to work cross-functionally and across cultures
Team-oriented with strong multitasking capabilities
Familiarity with corporate/unit purchasing policies and procedures
