Specimen Technician - 1st Shift
Job Title: Specimen Technician
Job Location: Beaufort, SC
Job Duration: 3+ Months (Possible Extension)
Shift: Mon – Fri 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST
Pay Rate: $17.20/hr. on W2
Job Summary:
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role involves handling and processing laboratory specimens with a strong focus on accuracy, productivity, and quality. The position requires adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform specimen processing tasks including A-station, presorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging/microfilming
- Handle pickup and delivery of specimens to the laboratory
- Accurately enter data (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour)
- Ensure proper handling and identification of specimen types based on test orders
- Follow all compliance regulations related to laboratory testing and specimen processing
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Adhere to company policies, safety standards, and quality requirements
- Communicate effectively with team members and other staff
- Adapt to changing procedures, priorities, and customer demands
Work Environment:
- Production-based laboratory setting with strict productivity and quality standards
- Exposure to biohazard materials; adherence to safety protocols is required
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Flexible schedule required, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts as needed
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- Basic computer proficiency
- Strong data entry skills
- Good organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to learn and apply laboratory procedures and compliance requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior laboratory or specimen processing experience
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Previous hospital or clinical laboratory experience
- Experience working in a production or high-volume environment
