Job Description:
- The Sterile Processing Coordinator is responsible for overseeing daily operations in the Sterile Processing Department (SPD).
- This role ensures surgical instruments and equipment are properly decontaminated, assembled, sterilized, and distributed in compliance with regulatory standards.
- The coordinator supervises technicians, manages workflow, and promotes a safe, efficient, and high-quality environment that supports patient care.
Job Duties:
- Supervise sterile processing technicians and assign daily shift coverage to maintain workflow efficiency.
- Oversee decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with ANSI/AAMI standards, manufacturer IFUs, and internal SOPs.
- Conduct and review quality assurance audits, ensuring complete and accurate documentation.
- Provide training, mentoring, and competency support for SPD staff.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting with maintenance teams.
- Collaborate with leadership on scheduling, timekeeping, and department goals.
- Partner with surgical and clinical teams to ensure timely instrument availability.
- Promote safety, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance in all SPD operations.
- Address and resolve customer service concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with inventory control, ordering, and supply chain processes.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and monitor department KPIs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Experience Required:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in sterile processing.
- At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in healthcare or manufacturing.
Education Required:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- College degree preferred, or equivalent leadership experience.
Licenses/Certifications Required:
- CRCST required.
- CIS preferred.
- Healthcare leadership certification is a plus.
