Medical Technician
Job Title: Medical Technologist (Traveler)
Duration: 3months
Location: Bradford PA
Shift: 11a - 7p EST alternating weekends
Job Description:
The Laboratory Technician performs routine lab tests under the supervision of Medical Technologists and the Laboratory Supervisor. They are responsible for setting up and monitoring automated test procedures and conducting manual procedures that require judgment. The technician uses pre-calibrated and/or automated devices to conduct tests.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Specimen Handling & Processing:
Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient test result records. -
Proficiency Testing:
Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested the same way as patient specimens. -
Test Analysis:
Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures as outlined in department SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). -
Review & Release Results:
Review and release test results after analysis. -
Compliance with Guidelines:
Follow CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), and other safety guidelines. -
Quality Control & Documentation:
Adhere to laboratory quality control policies, document all quality control activities, calibrations, and maintenance performed on instruments and procedures. -
Troubleshooting & Corrective Actions:
Identify problems that may affect test performance or result reporting. Correct problems or promptly notify the senior technologist or supervisor. Document all corrective actions when systems deviate from established performance specifications. -
Reporting Critical Results:
Follow department procedures in reporting critical results to clients. -
Customer & Lab Personnel Communication:
Respond to questions from customers or other lab personnel, as needed. -
Record Maintenance:
Maintain complete and accurate records of all testing performed on-site. -
Department Appearance & Safety:
Ensure the laboratory maintains a clean and organized appearance. Ensure reagents and test kits have proper dates, including received dates, expiration dates, and opened dates. -
Training & Education:
Review and train on new procedures, attend monthly department meetings, and participate in additional training and educational sessions. -
Safety Training & Equipment Use:
Participate in safety training sessions and know the location and contents of the safety manual. Understand the location and use of all applicable safety equipment. -
Moderate-Complexity Testing (if applicable):
Perform moderate-complexity testing with on-site training provided.
Qualifications:

Education Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field.

Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.

Work Experience:
1 - 3 years of clinical experience preferred.
