Job Summary:
- Financial Counseling, including patient financial assessments and counseling, Federally Facilitated Exchange assistance, and patient estimate & payment collection.
- Cashiering, including daily reconciliation & depositing, lien filing, and credit card processing.
- Customer Reception, including answering of all phone calls to Patient Financial Services, scanning of correspondence and lock box batches, patient address updating, and general paperwork filing/mailing as assigned.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensures efficient and effective daily operations of the Patient Financial Services Department, including high sensitivity to our corporate compliance guidelines, and supervision of processes and systems in financial counseling, customer service, and cashier services.
- Ensures all Epic work queues are worked timely.
- Understands Financial Assistance application workflow and assists in timely turnaround of processing applications.
- Effectively communicates with Social Services, Case Management, Admitting/Registration, or appropriate department to continually improve policies/procedures/workflows.
- Ensures all Financial Counselors are Certified Application Counselor. This includes monitoring Certified Application Counselor continuing education and recertification.
- Resolves applicable patient complaints in timely manner.
- Shares in long- and short-term planning for Patient Financial Services and identifies the impact changes will have on operations.
- Develops, reviews, implements, and updates department policies and procedures on a continual basis.
- Assists with training staff in policies and procedures.
- Select, motivates, directs and develops staff to cooperatively achieve departmental objectives.
- Hires, fires, counsels staff and takes personnel action, when necessary, per ***, Inc. personnel policies.
- Prepares objective annual performance evaluations for staff, based on a set of pre-determined measures or standards, monitored by department head review.
- Monitors’ workflow of respective areas.
- Provides assistance by reassigning staff or redistributing workload to ensure completion of all tasks.
- Keeps Director and Manager informed and current on department activities.
- Maintains and holds staff accountable to Productivity and Quality metrics as established by Leadership.
- Understands and complies with requirements of all applicable federal regulations.
- Understands and comply with requirements of the State of Wisconsin’s Office of Insurance Commissioner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Two (2) years management and leadership experience.
- Problem solving and well-developed analytical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer Skills.
- Experienced in Microsoft Word & Excel.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Recent experience in Revenue Cycle, Social Work, or Case Management supervision.
- Epic Client/Prelude and HB Resolute experience.
Education:
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management, Social Work, or related field required.
- In lieu of degree, an additional minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in hospital financial counseling, patient access, or revenue cycle operations, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership role, may be considered as equivalent.
