Job Title: Pharmacist: Travel
Location: Aurora, CO 80011
Contract: 4 Months+ (with possibility of extension)
 
Pay Rate: $65/hr. on W2

License Requirements: Colorado Board of Pharmacy License (must be attached)
Certification Requirements: BLS through American Heart Association (must be attached)
Experience Required: Minimum 1 year recent hospital pharmacy experience preferred
Shift: Variable; mixture of 08:00–18:00 Mon – Fri and 09:00 – 15:00 weekends/holidays. Floating between Aurora (3 days) and Denver (1 day) – schedule may change based on business needs.
 
Role Overview:
The Pharmacist works in collaboration with the Director of Pharmacy to compound and dispense medications, support clinical and quality initiatives, and ensure regulatory compliance within the hospital. This role provides consultative support to clinical staff, supervises technical support personnel, and participates in performance improvement and education programs. The Pharmacist ensures safe, effective, and patient-centered pharmaceutical care for adult and geriatric populations.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Interpret medication orders and compound/dispense medications and pharmaceutical preparations according to legal, ethical, and professional standards.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and provide professional and technical guidance.
  • Assist with clinical, quality management, and staff education programs.
  • Review patient profiles to ensure appropriate, safe, and effective drug therapy (no therapeutic duplication, significant drug interactions, or avoidable ADRs).
  • Calculate fluid, electrolyte, and calorie needs and monitor patient appropriateness for formulations.
  • Perform pharmacokinetics dosing services: ensure dosing appropriateness, interpret levels, modify doses, and document progress notes.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques, I.V. preparation standards, and pharmacy security.
  • Fill orders accurately, prioritizing STAT, Now, and Waiting orders, and ensure proper labeling and packaging.
  • Maintain accurate logs (IV refrigerator temperature, hood cleaning, etc.) and ensure controlled substances security.
  • Keep Director informed of workload status and potential issues.
  • Keep current on new medications and therapeutic guidelines.
  • Generate required reports (IV, production, etc.) and perform backup procedures as needed.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Colorado Board of Pharmacy License
  • BLS Certification (AHA)
  • Minimum 1 year hospital pharmacy experience preferred
  • Knowledge of adult and geriatric patient populations
  • Competency in pharmacokinetics, dosing, and medication safety

Preferred:
  • Experience in multi-facility hospital settings with floating responsibilities
  • Strong ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work under time-sensitive conditions
  • Familiarity with hospital information systems and pharmacy workflow management
 
Skills:
  • Excellent clinical judgment and therapeutic knowledge
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication preparation and dispensing
  • Leadership and supervision of technical staff
  • Effective communication with physicians, administration, and medical staff
  • Problem-solving and proactive decision-making in a fast-paced hospital environment
