Lab Assistant
Job Title: Laboratory Assistant
Duration: 10 months, possibility of extension
Hours/Week: 40
Days: Tuesday through Saturday
Job Summary:
The Laboratory Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the laboratory professional staff by performing various routine laboratory functions with precision and accuracy. The role involves assisting with specimen processing, equipment maintenance, and laboratory operations, ensuring smooth and efficient production in the department.
Key Responsibilities:

Sort and receive specimens in the department, ensuring proper handling and storage.

Perform routine instrument maintenance on laboratory equipment.

Centrifuge specimens, print extra labels, record data (temperature charts), and assist with specimen storage and retrieval.

Prepare reagents and/or media for use in the laboratory.

Prepare specimens at workstations for testing, including building worklists, aliquoting specimens into sample cups, checking for clots and fibrin, inoculation, and slide preparation.

Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) duties as assigned.

Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.

Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.

Maintain and organize files for department records and ensure accurate documentation.

Change gas cylinders as needed for laboratory operations.

Follow all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and safety regulations.

Operate the laboratory computer system and PCs effectively for tracking and reporting purposes.

Dispose of biohazardous materials following safety protocols.

Complete training and competency checklists as required for the role.

Job Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent (Required).

Medical assistant training is helpful but not required.
-
Completion of math and science courses is preferred.

Ability to establish work priorities and handle multiple tasks to maximize workstation efficiency.

Ability to retain information once learned and apply it effectively.

Professional interaction with coworkers and internal/external customers with courtesy and respect.
