Customer Service Representative I
Job Title: Customer Service Representative I
Location: Edison, NJ 08817
Contract Duration: 2 months, with possibility of temp-to-hire
Schedule: Standard business hours
Starting Pay Rate: $19/h on w2
Position Summary:
Provides essential support to customers and the sales team by processing orders, resolving inquiries, and ensuring smooth communication across departments. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently.
Essential Functions:
• Process customer orders received via EDI, email, and phone in a timely and accurate manner
• Document and communicate any order changes or revisions
• Provide necessary documentation to operations and warehouse teams
• Communicate with customers regarding price discrepancies, out-of-stock items, and shipping delays
• Maintain and file all customer-related documentation
• Process RMAs and credits; forward to customers and corporate finance as needed
• Oversee and manage the Papervision system
• Attend and participate in team meetings
Additional Responsibilities:
• Answer incoming calls and assist with customer inquiries
• Resolve customer complaints and escalate to supervisor when necessary
• Provide missing or misplaced documents (e.g., invoices, BOLs) to customers
• Support the sales team with administrative tasks
• Greet and screen visitors and incoming calls; relay messages appropriately
• Monitor facility access to ensure only authorized personnel and vendors are admitted
• Complete customer care functions and special projects as assigned
• Prepare reports and maintain accurate documentation
• Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• 1–2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and training
• Experience with system implementation preferred
Education:
• High school diploma or GED required
Top Skills:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, IDS systems, Power Sell software, and EDI platforms
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Effective time management and organizational abilities
• Proficient in 10-key data entry
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and professional correspondence
• Strong math skills (basic arithmetic, percentages, ratios, bar graphs)
• Sound reasoning and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment when supervision is limited.
