Job Title: Provider Education Coordinator
Location: Troy, MI
Duration: 3 + Months (Temp to Hire - Possibilities of Extension)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Flexible start between 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM)
 
General Summary:
The Provider Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing provider education and medical record coding to support hospital and ambulatory billing, reimbursement, and compliance requirements. Acting as a subject matter expert in documentation and coding, this role analyzes revenue cycle metrics to identify documentation trends, develops education plans to improve medical record quality, and serves as a resource for providers and coding staff on coding guidelines and compliance regulations, including ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCC, and more.
 
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Analyze provider and specialty coding/reimbursement reports and develop actionable education plans for physicians, non-physician practitioners, residents, fellows, and ancillary staff.
  • Promote improvements in documentation through frequent communication with providers and specialties.
  • Facilitate education events, workshops, conferences, and presentations.
  • Distribute educational materials, tools, and resources.
  • Participate in health system quality and core measure initiatives related to documentation, coding, reimbursement, and compliance.
  • Report regularly to department management on documentation and coding trends and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor the quality and timeliness of medical documentation for billing purposes.
  • Identify patterns in audit performance and query metrics to target education efforts.
  • Document education activities and meetings using an access database.
  • Assist with development, implementation, and monitoring of special projects.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for assigned specialties, responding to provider and administrator inquiries.
  • Act as liaison between providers, administrators, and revenue cycle teams regarding documentation, coding, reimbursement, and communications.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations and organizational policies related to coding and compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Required Qualifications:
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Associate’s Degree in Healthcare, Medical Record Sciences, or Business/Healthcare Administration (preferred).
  • OR four (4) years of relevant coding experience in lieu of degree.
Certifications (must have at least one):
  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder)
  • CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
  • CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based)
  • RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)
  • RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator)
 
Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years of medical coding and billing experience required.
  • Experience educating or training clinical staff on documentation or coding preferred.
  • Familiarity with healthcare compliance, revenue cycle operations, and audit response processes.
