Specimen Technician
Job Title: Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I)
Location: Lewisville, TX
Shift: Sunday–Thursday | 9:30 PM – 6:00 AM CST
Duration: 4+ months (contract)
Department: Tech Ops
Job Summary:
The Specimen Processing Technician I supports laboratory operations by processing, sorting, and delivering specimens accurately and on time. This role requires strong data entry skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, biohazard environment. Most work is performed on night shift, with potential weekend, holiday, overtime, and on-call needs.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform specimen processing tasks including accessioning (A-station), presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming

Enter data at a rate of ~6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour

Collect, sort, and deliver specimens to appropriate testing labs (significant walking required)

Follow daily-changing compliance and test-ordering regulations

Maintain productivity, quality standards, and turnaround times

Work safely in a biohazard environment and keep work areas clean and organized

Communicate effectively with team members and leadership
Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Basic computer and data entry skills

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods

Strong organizational skills and adaptability to change
Preferred Qualifications:

Laboratory, medical, hospital, production, inventory, or warehousing experience

Knowledge of medical terminology or specimen processing
