Shift: Work shift – Mon - Fri ( 7:00AM - 3:30PM )

Job Title: Laboratory Assistant (OB)

Job Summary: The Laboratory Assistant (OB) will perform routine laboratory functions with precision and accuracy to assist the laboratory professional staff and ensure smooth production processes. This role is integral to the daily operations of the laboratory and involves a variety of tasks, including specimen handling, equipment maintenance, and data recording, all while adhering to strict safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Specimen Handling: Sort and receive specimens within the department, ensuring correct labeling and tracking.

  • Instrument Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment to ensure proper functioning.

  • Specimen Processing: Centrifuge specimens, prepare workstations for testing, aliquot specimens into sample cups, and check specimens for clots and fibrin.

  • Reagent and Media Preparation: Prepare necessary reagents and media as required by the department.

  • Testing Support: Build worklists, inoculate samples, prepare slides, and assist with testing as directed.

  • Quality Assurance/Control: Perform assigned QA/QC duties, resolve pending lists, locate missing samples, and ensure all materials meet quality standards.

  • Decontamination and Safety Compliance: Regularly decontaminate work areas and dispose of biohazardous materials. Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests and follow all PPE and safety regulations.

  • Documentation and Records Management: Maintain files for department records, ensure data is accurately recorded, and assist with specimen storage and retrieval.

  • Miscellaneous Duties: Change gas cylinders, use laboratory computer systems and PCs for data entry, and complete necessary training and competency checklists.

Job Requirements:

  • Efficiency: Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and prioritize for maximum workstation efficiency.

  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accurate task completion and adherence to procedures.

  • Team Interaction: Demonstrated ability to interact courteously and respectfully with coworkers, customers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Learning Capability: Must retain and apply information learned on the job.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical Assistant training is helpful, and math and science coursework is preferred.

  • Experience: No prior work experience required. On-the-job training will be provided.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously while maintaining high levels of accuracy.

  • Ability to interact professionally with others in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Must follow all safety regulations and comply with PPE requirements at all times.
