Job Title: Specimen Technician
Job Location: San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675
Job Duration: 6+ Months Contract (Possibilities of Extension)
 
Shift/Time Zone: Wednesday – Sunday, 8:00 PM – 4:30 AM

Pay Rate: $23/hour on W2 

Job Summary:

• Responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
• Handles specimen processing tasks including data entry, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming, and specimen transport within the laboratory.
• Performs all duties accurately, confidently, and in a timely manner.
• Supports compliance with specimen handling and testing regulations that may change daily.
• Critical to quality and customer satisfaction.
• Flexibility required for staffing changes, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.

 
Key Responsibilities:

• Perform specimen processing functions (A-station, presort, pickup/delivery to laboratory, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming).
• Enter data accurately (target: 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour).
• Understand specimen types and tests ordered by clients.
• Adhere to biohazard safety protocols.
• Sit or stand for extended periods as required.
• Adapt to daily workflow changes and customer demands.

 
Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

 
Required Knowledge & Skills:

• Basic understanding of computers
• Preferred: knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with accuracy

 
Experience:

• No experience required
• Preferred: previous laboratory experience, medical background, knowledge of medical terminology, hospital lab experience, or production environment experience
