Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Histotechnologist to perform both routine and complex histological procedures essential for accurate pathological diagnoses. The ideal candidate will be proficient in all responsibilities typically performed by Histotechnicians I and II and demonstrate expertise in tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and special staining techniques.

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Histotechnologist to perform both routine and complex histological procedures essential for accurate pathological diagnoses. The ideal candidate will be proficient in all responsibilities typically performed by Histotechnicians I and II and demonstrate expertise in tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and special staining techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately accession, label, and process all tissue specimens in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Embed processed tissue in paraffin and perform precise microtomy to prepare quality tissue sections.
- Prepare routine Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained slides, including manual or automated coverslipping.
- Prepare reagents and solutions required for special staining procedures.
- Obtain and validate tissue controls used in special stains and ensure quality execution of all staining protocols.
- (As needed) Assist in preparing solutions and validating control materials for immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures.
- (As needed) Perform IHC testing with strict adherence to protocols.
- Perform filing, archiving, and maintenance of blocks and slides.
- Conduct routine maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting of histology equipment; document all corrective actions taken.
- Train and mentor Histotechnicians, students, and laboratory aides.
- Maintain strict compliance with quality control protocols; ensure documentation meets all laboratory, CLIA, and CAP requirements.
- Follow all corporate safety and laboratory regulations and contribute to a clean and organized work environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a histology laboratory setting required.
- Proficiency in tissue embedding and microtomy essential.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science or related field.
- ASCP certification (HT or HTL) required.
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP).
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with automated staining and coverslipping systems.
- Familiarity with IHC protocols and troubleshooting.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
