Product Manager Research & Discovery
Day-to-Day Responsibilities / Workload
The Product Manager for Research & Discovery is responsible for transforming ambiguous business needs into clear, validated, and estimate-ready problem definitions. This role leads discovery efforts, maps cross-channel customer journeys, identifies constraints, and produces the Discovery Packet required for IT to generate accurate estimates and for leadership to make informed investment decisions.
This is a hands-on discovery and research role. It does not include delivery execution or people management.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Discovery & Problem Framing

Translate vague or undefined business problems into well-framed opportunities grounded in customer, business, and regulatory perspectives.

Produce "shovel-ready" Discovery Packets to support IT estimation, capital planning, and strategic prioritization.

Partner with the Senior Manager of Product to develop ROI models when required.

Synthesize scattered backlog items into clear strategic themes.
Research & Validation Leadership

Lead customer research activities, including interviews, usability testing, concept validation, prototyping, and feedback synthesis.

Use call center data, quality management analytics, and operational insights to validate root causes.

Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Product to identify regulatory constraints that shape the solution space.

Create service blueprints, journey maps, business rule definitions, and low-fidelity prototypes.
Stakeholder & Product Management

Partner with Domain Product Managers to understand end-to-end journey impacts and constraints early in discovery.

Collaborate with Domain Product Managers to define MVP boundaries and ensure IT estimates reflect realistic, validated Product.

Ensure all discovery artifacts are aligned and complete before work transitions to estimation or execution.
Required Skills / Attributes
Qualifications

5+ years of experience in Discovery, UX Research, Product Strategy, or Service Design.

Strong expertise in service blueprinting, journey mapping, and early-stage prototyping.

Proven ability to translate user needs and operational insights into business value.

Excellent synthesis, facilitation, and problem-framing skills.
Desired Skills / Attributes

Experience working within large, complex, and highly regulated enterprises (preferred).
