Job Summary
The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) provides essential support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This role requires strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production laboratory environment. The SPT I plays a critical role in ensuring specimen quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction while adapting to frequent operational and regulatory changes.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-sort activities
Pickup and delivery of processed specimens to laboratory areas
Imaging and microfilming
Centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens

The SPT I plays a critical role in ensuring specimen quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction while adapting to frequent operational and regulatory changes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general specimen processing functions including:
Pre-sort activities
Pickup and delivery of processed specimens to laboratory areas
Imaging and microfilming
Centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens
- Accurately enter data with a requirement of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
- Learn and identify specimen types related to tests ordered by clients
- Understand and comply with regulatory and compliance requirements that may change daily
- Maintain accuracy, confidence, and efficiency while meeting departmental productivity and quality standards
- Work effectively in a biohazard environment while following all safety procedures
- Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with laboratory standards
- Communicate effectively with all levels of staff
- Demonstrate flexibility to support changing workloads, customer demands, and operational needs
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
