Job Title: Mechanical Operator
Location: Durham, NC 27703-8481
Duration: 5 to 6 Months+ (Possible Extension)
 
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard business hours (specific shift TBD)
 
Job Summary:
The Assembly Equipment Technician is responsible for building, assembling, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems used in the Inovoject® System and other related equipment. This role supports production, quality, and engineering teams by maintaining high standards of assembly quality, documentation, and process improvement.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical/mechanical drawings, and work instructions to build, assemble, and repair electro-mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems used on the Inovoject® System.
  • Assist with preparing and updating detailed build documentation and maintain organized records of assembly processes.
  • Support parts rebuilding as necessary.
  • Learn and apply new assembly techniques and prototype methods under engineering guidance.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering to document equipment changes and suggest improvements to functionality, quality, and workflow efficiency.
  • Assist in testing new technologies and prototype devices.
  • Maintain personal tools, hardware inventory, and an organized, clean workspace.
  • Work with the Manager of Manufacturing to identify and implement process improvements to reduce build time and cost.
  • Partner with Quality Control to resolve device issues and complete necessary repairs.
  • Support manufacturing and logistics teams to prepare completed systems for shipment.
 
Additional Responsibilities for Technician II
  • Take a lead role in documenting and implementing equipment improvements and workflow enhancements.
  • Independently troubleshoot and repair complex electro-mechanical and pneumatic systems.
  • Participate in cross-training on multiple device types and systems.
  • Provide input and feedback for engineering design reviews and new product builds.
 
Education & Experience Requirements:
Technician I
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in mechanical, electrical, or electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology preferred.
Technician II
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in mechanical, electrical, or electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology preferred.
 
Key Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting electro-mechanical and pneumatic systems.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
