Specimen Technician
Duration: 4 Months
Location: Cleveland, OH, 44103
Shift/Time Zone: 9am-530pm First shift/ EST
Overview:
The Specimen Processing Technician I is responsible for performing general support duties within the Specimen Processing Department to ensure the accurate, timely, and efficient handling of laboratory specimens. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent data entry skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform all specimen processing functions, including A-station setup, presort, pickup, delivery, imaging, microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.

Accurately enter patient and specimen data into the laboratory information system (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour).

Ensure all specimens are correctly labeled, handled, and transported according to established laboratory safety and compliance regulations.

Maintain strict adherence to quality assurance and productivity standards to support timely laboratory operations.

Demonstrate understanding of specimen types, test orders, and related compliance regulations.

Adapt to frequent changes in procedures, priorities, and client demands while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.

Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, couriers, and other departments to ensure smooth workflow.

Maintain a clean, organized, and biohazard-safe work environment at all times.

Participate in weekend, holiday, on-call, and overtime rotations as required by department scheduling needs.
Skills and Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (required).

Data Entry Skills: Proficiency in keyboarding with a minimum speed of 6,000 keystrokes/hour.

Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of computers; familiarity with laboratory terminology, testing, or specimen handling preferred.

Experience:

No prior experience required—training provided.

Previous laboratory, hospital, or production environment experience preferred.

Medical or healthcare background is an advantage.

Soft Skills: Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, flexibility, and effective communication skills.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and work safely in a biohazard environment.
