Specimen Technician

Summary:
Responsible for performing general support functions in the Specimen Processing Department, with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and quality. Work involves data entry, specimen handling, and compliance with laboratory regulations. Position requires flexibility, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform A-station, presort, specimen pickup and delivery, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.

• Enter data at a minimum speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour.

• Ensure accuracy and timely processing of specimens in compliance with testing regulations.

• Learn and understand various specimen types and related tests ordered by clients.

• Maintain productivity and quality standards to meet departmental deadlines.

• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

• Follow all safety, compliance, and biohazard handling procedures.

• Adapt to daily changes and varying customer demands.

• Work night shifts, weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as needed.

Work Environment:

• Fast-paced, high-volume production setting.

• Biohazard environment — use of lab coat, mask, goggles, gloves, and other protective equipment required.

• Repetitive tasks with prolonged sitting or standing.

Requirements:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

• Skills: Basic computer knowledge; strong English reading, writing, and speaking skills.

• Preferred: Laboratory or hospital experience; knowledge of medical terminology; production environment experience.

• Other: Reliable transportation (bus, Uber, rideshare not accepted); excellent attendance and punctuality required.
